This covers brakencearchive.com, the games on it (brakdlE, listeN, higheR, ranK and mirroR, all on brakencearchive.com subdomains, plus play.brakencearchive.com) and the brakence games Discord activity. I’m one fan making these for fun. I’m not brakence, Columbia Records, Sony Music or Discord.
The short version
- No accounts, no ads, no tracking cookies, and I don’t sell or share anything with anyone.
- Your game progress lives in your own browser, not on my server.
- The server only counts anonymous totals, like how many people got today’s song in 3.
- The Discord activity knows your Discord ID and display name while you’re in a room, and forgets the room about 10 minutes after everyone leaves.
What’s saved in your browser
The games save your stats, streaks, guesses, tier lists and settings in your browser’s local storage, so they’re still there next time. That data stays on your device and isn’t sent to me. A few small first-party cookies on .brakencearchive.com remember which dailies you’ve done today, your daily trio streak, the badges you’ve unlocked and whether you closed the “add to home screen” tip, so the games can share that between each other. None of them are used for tracking or ads. You can delete all of it any time by clearing site data for brakencearchive.com in your browser.
What’s sent to my server
Some things are counted anonymously so the games can show “how everyone did” and the live numbers on the archive:
- your daily brakdlE and listeN result (how many guesses, win or loss),
- your higheR score and streak,
- which mirroR result you got,
- when you save a ranK tier list, where you placed each song, which goes into the everyone-combined list. It’s saved with a random code your browser made up, so saving again replaces your old list instead of counting twice. The code isn’t linked to you in any way,
- one “someone visited today” tick per browser per day on the archive.
None of this has your name, an account or anything that points back to you. I don’t store IP addresses.
Hosting, analytics and other services
- Cloudflare hosts everything. Like any host, it handles your IP address and browser info to deliver the pages and keep out attacks. I use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without following you around. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
- Apple Music previews. The song clips are Apple’s official 30-second previews, played straight from Apple’s servers, so your browser connects to Apple when a clip plays. See Apple’s privacy policy.
- Links out. Links to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Genius and others take you to their sites, which have their own policies.
The brakence games Discord activity
When you open the activity, Discord asks if it can share your basic account info with it (the “identify” permission). Here’s what I do with that:
- I use your Discord user ID and display name to show you in the room and keep your score. I don’t use your avatar, email, friends, servers, messages or voice. The activity can’t see any of those.
- Discord gives the activity a sign-in token. It’s used once to check who you are with Discord and isn’t stored.
- The activity also asks to update your Discord status, so your profile can show which game you’re playing and how far along the room is (like “higheR showdown, round 6”). That’s all it writes there.
- While a room is open, my server keeps the room’s state: who’s in it (ID and display name), scores, and your guesses, picks or votes. Other people in the room see your name, your score and your answers as the game reveals them.
- About 10 minutes after the last person leaves, the room is deleted along with everything in it.
- When you use one of the app’s slash commands, like /listen or /daily, Discord sends my server the command along with the channel and some info about you. I only use the channel, so the activity opens on the game you asked for. That’s kept for 10 minutes, then deleted.
Discord’s own handling of your data is covered by Discord’s privacy policy.
Kids
None of this is aimed at children under 13, and the Discord activity follows Discord’s own age rules.
Your choices and rights
You can clear everything stored in your browser yourself, and you can stop using the activity any time. Depending on where you live you may have the right to ask what data I hold about you or to have it deleted. Since the server keeps nothing that identifies you outside of a live Discord room, there’s usually nothing to hand over, but just ask and I’ll check.
Changes and contact
If this changes I’ll update it here and change the date at the top. Questions? Message me on Instagram or Discord, I’m @yestinjarrett on both.
